After a frankly-incredible amount of effort, I’ve re-done the markup for the weblog section of this site. And then put each entry into a standalone XML file with custom entities and elements. And written a DTD to handle my custom entities and elements. And then processed it through a series of ever-narrowing hoops to present you with the page you see before you. Simple as that.
Well, there were the default attributes left in the DTD (I used the XHTML 1.1 DTD as a template). Not to mention MSXML’s ignorage of the output-encoding attribute, or the difficulties in juggling hundreds of well-formed but incorrect XML files.
Scratch all that — this is a time for testing, and celebration. Only entry pages are at present in the new, improved format, with corresponding work-in-progress stylesheet. My mind is complete jelly from all the typing and opening files and FTP-ing and writing glue code and test code and Python and ASP and so forth so I’ll just say: let me know about bugs, please.
Still to do:
Some code
