I usually can’t stand reading obituaries; they tend to be aimed at the family, and thankfully I’ve only been in the immediate family three times in my life. Reading those meant for other people feels ghoulish, grisly, and I’d certainly never normally presume to mention the death of someone I didn’t know.
But I got back this evening, turned on the radio, and heard that Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed tonight in Cameroon’s Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia. His heart had stopped. After 45 minutes in which various resuscitation attempts were made, he was pronounced dead.
I am quite literally stunned. He had a fantastic season last year at Manchester City and scored the last ever goal at Maine Road. Rest in peace.
