The New Literary Lottery via Maud Blog.

Both of those sites link to The Minor Fall, The Major Lift. I found both of them with the blo.gs random site feature. I found The Minor Fall, The Major Lift because I recognised the name (I have at least three versions of the song), and I went there because it wasn’t on Blog*spot.

All those sites are good.

Oh, our Open opened oddly; Otto on (ap)ogee. Pretty much every player — not least the mercurial Mickelson and wondrous Woods — suffered some bad bounces and got some good ones, or got tipped to make the cut and then written off. Then there was Colin Montgomerie, who retired injured. How was he injured? Late for breakfast this morning he looked up in surprise to see that it was raining, then fell over and landed on his right hand.

I didn’t see a great deal of it, but for me, this is what top level sport is all about: making it tough for the pros. Most of the players endured a downright miserable time out in the wind and the rain, with the sea on one side and a power station on the other. Ricky Barnes, the US amateur champion, started well before collapsing on some hole, the number of which I forget, and taking three (or was it four?) shots just to get past the ladies’ tee.

Bloody marvellous.
