De-Loused deposed

Just as it was looking as if De-Loused in the Comatorium was set in for the week, along comes an MP3 compilation CD. That I’d been waiting for for, ooh, going on for months rather than weeks.

Although we’re not supposed to know the tracks (yes, we — it’s a collaborative thing) I recognised Ana by The Pixies and Cool Waves by Spiritualized. I also know that there’s a Neil Young track on there, I just don’t own it.

And it’s bloody good. This is the fifth iteration we’ve tried, and it seems each is better than the last (apart from the aborted second attempt). This time there are fewer short songs to meet time requirements and there’s a lot less punk, thank God. We’ve got acoustic strum-alongs next to thumpin’ drumn and bass, chilled-out jazz alongside comedy metal, and Caribbean dance music beside restrained German pop.

Fourteen submitters, two songs each, no time restrictions, but a theme…which I won’t mention now. I have a CD to listen to, and eventually review.
